The word baccarat is derived from the Italian word baccara, which means zero. That is because of the zero value given to all of the face
cards and tens. The game of baccarat is one of the most popular casino games, especialy in European Casinos.
An early version of the game was played with cards from a Tarot deck back in the Middle Ages.
The present form of Baccarat comes from Italy where it first appeared around 1490. The game was introduced to France in the 15th
century and became the favorite game for French people. Although it has always been a popular game in
European and most Latin American countries, it never caught on as strongly as Blackjack in US casinos.
More recently, a lot of American casinos have introduced the game of “Mini Baccarat” that has the same rules as Baccarat, offers lower
stakes, and is played on a standard Blackjack shaped table.
